The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), acting on the recommendations of the Search-cum-Selection Committee, has approved the appointment of three Technical Members (State) to the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) for the Benches located in Maharashtra and Goa.

The appointed members are:

  • David Thomas Alvaris, currently Technical Member at the Maharashtra Sales Tax Tribunal, Mumbai Bench.
  • Prallhad Shrikrishna Paranjape, who retired as Additional Commissioner of State Tax from the Maharashtra GST Department.
  • Bhausaheb Vishram Borhade, who retired as Joint Commissioner of State Tax from the Maharashtra GST Department.

According to an official notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Training, the newly appointed members will serve a tenure of four years, or until attaining the age of 67, whichever is earlier. Each member will draw a monthly salary of ₹2,25,000.

The appointments mark a crucial step towards strengthening the GSTAT infrastructure in Maharashtra and Goa, which has been facing a backlog of cases due to delayed operationalization of benches.

The GSTAT, a key appellate authority under the GST framework, adjudicates disputes between taxpayers and the revenue department. With the appointment of new Technical Members, the government aims to expedite resolution of pending appeals and ensure smoother functioning of the indirect tax dispute redressal mechanism.
