The Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, Justice Alok Aradhe, has issued an official notification designating Kolhapur as an additional venue where Judges and Division Courts of the Bombay High Court will hold sittings w.e.f. August 18, 2025.
The decision, exercised under the powers conferred by Section 51(3) of the States Reorganisation Act, 1956, comes with the approval of the Governor of Maharashtra and will be effective from August 18, 2025.
This move is expected to ease the burden on litigants from southern Maharashtra, providing them better access to justice without the need to travel to Mumbai. It is also seen as a major step toward decentralization and improving judicial efficiency.
The notification was published in the Maharashtra Government Gazette (Extraordinary Part IV-C, Notification No. 41) dated August 1, 2025.
