The Society for Tax Analysis & Research (STAR) kicked off the STAR TAX Summit 2025 today (26/04/2025) with great enthusiasm and thought leadership. The conference began on an auspicious note with the traditional lighting of the lamp ceremony, symbolizing the illumination of knowledge and wisdom.

CA Man Mohan Gupta, President of STAR, welcomed the participants and set the tone for an engaging day filled with insightful discussions.

The first session, titled GST and Taxpayer Rights”, was led by Senior Advocate Sh. Sujit Ghosh. In his powerful keynote, Mr. Ghosh emphasized the fundamental balance between taxpayers’ rights and their duties. He noted, “As human beings, we have this tendency of seeking our rights, but before we seek our rights, there is a duty to pay tax—and most of the time, we tend to forget our duty. Rights and duties go hand in hand.” His address framed the critical relationship between constitutional protections and the complex realities of India’s GST regime.

The day continued with eminent speakers presenting on a range of contemporary topics:

  • Sh. Ajay Vohra, Senior Advocate, discussed “Reassessment under the Income Tax Act: Shifting Paradigm – Section 148 & 148A”.
  • Dr. Rakesh Gupta, Advocate, provided an Understanding Overview of the New Income Tax Bill.

In recognition of their valuable contributions, the distinguished guests were felicitated with plants and mementos, symbolizing growth, respect, and lasting memories of the event.

Adding an interactive and lively element to the proceedings, a special quiz session was organized, where delegates were asked questions based on the sessions. Participants who answered correctly were rewarded with special gifts, making the summit not only informative but also highly engaging.

In a major highlight, the First Moot Tribunal Bench was also organized by the STAR (Delhi) Team. This innovative initiative allowed participants to experience a simulated tribunal proceeding, sharpening their litigation and advocacy skills in a realistic environment, and received much appreciation from the delegates and guests.

Guiding and mentoring the sessions were the esteemed conference mentors:

  • Sh. H C Bhatia, Advocate and Ex-President, STBA
  • CA Ranjan Chopra, General Secretary, ITAT Bar Association
  • CA Vinod Bansal, Senior Partner at Vinod Bansal & Associates

The STAR TAX Summit 2025 Day 1 concluded on a high note, setting a robust benchmark for the days to follow — seamlessly blending deep legal insights, emerging technology discussions, interactive learning, and warm gestures of appreciation.
