Justice (Retd.) Mayank Kumar Jain Appointed as Judicial Member at Principal Bench, GSTAT, New Delhi

Justice (Retd.) Mayank Kumar Jain, a former Judge of the Allahabad High Court, has been appointed as the Judicial Member of the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) at its Principal Bench in New Delhi. 

With an extensive judicial career spanning over three decades, Justice Jain brings to the Tribunal a wealth of experience in civil, commercial, and tax matters.

Born on November 4, 1962, Justice Jain graduated in law from Meerut University in 1984 and enrolled as an advocate in 1985. He practiced on the civil side in District Muzaffarnagar until his induction into the judiciary in 1990 as a Munsif. He was later promoted to the Higher Judicial Services (HJS) cadre in 2008.

During his illustrious judicial service, he held various key positions, including Member of the Commercial Tax Tribunal in Meerut, where he presided over several Division Benches. His experience extended across multiple jurisdictions, including Meerut, Saharanpur, Noida, Ghaziabad, Bareilly, and Moradabad.

Justice Jain also served in administrative capacities, including as Registrar (Judicial)/(Selection & Appointment/Seniority) in the Allahabad High Court and later as its Registrar General. He further served as District & Sessions Judge in Agra, Meerut, Gonda, and Kanpur Nagar.

Elevated to the Bench, he took oath as an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court on August 15, 2022, and became a Permanent Judge on September 25, 2023. He served on the Bench until his retirement on November 3, 2024.

His appointment to GSTAT is expected to enhance the Tribunal’s capacity to adjudicate complex tax matters with judicial precision and efficiency. The legal fraternity has welcomed the move, citing his deep understanding of tax and civil law and his administrative acumen.
