NIA Gets 10-Day Custody of Alleged Red Fort Blast Co-Conspirator Jasir Bilal Wani

A Special NIA Court at Patiala House has remanded Jasir Bilal Wani to 10 days’ custody of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the ongoing probe into the Red Fort blast conspiracy. Wani, who was arrested from Srinagar on November 17, was produced before Principal District and Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna for the remand proceedings on Tuesday.

The NIA has termed Wani an “active co-conspirator,” alleging that he provided advanced technical know-how for the execution of terror plans linked to the November 10 explosion near the Red Fort. The blast, caused by a car-borne improvised explosive device (IED), killed 13 people and injured several others.

According to the agency, Wani was involved in modifying drones, experimenting with rocket fabrication, and offering technological support to the alleged attackers. Investigators claim he worked closely with Umar Un Nabi — identified as the suspected suicide bomber — and was responsible for crucial operational support before the attack. The NIA has described Wani as a vital link in the broader terror plot.

Second Accused, Amir Rashid Ali, Also in NIA Custody

In a separate but connected development, Delhi courts had earlier remanded another suspect, Amir Rashid Ali, to NIA custody for 10 days on November 16. Ali, a resident of Samboora in Pampore, was apprehended in Delhi for his alleged involvement in procuring the vehicle used in the attack.

The car that exploded near the Red Fort was registered in Ali’s name. Investigators say he had travelled to Delhi in 2024 to arrange the vehicle later packed with explosives. The agency claims Ali was in contact with Umar Un Nabi and assisted in executing the attack as part of a larger conspiracy.

The NIA’s forensic analysis has confirmed that the driver of the explosive-laden vehicle was Umar Un Nabi, a Pulwama resident and former Assistant Professor in the General Medicine Department at Al Falah University, Faridabad. He died in the blast.

Wider Network Under Scrutiny

As the investigation expands, the NIA has seized another vehicle linked to Nabi, which is currently undergoing forensic examination. Officials said that the agency is pursuing multiple leads to unravel the network behind the explosion and identify more suspects.

So far, 73 witnesses — including blast survivors — have been examined. The NIA is coordinating with Delhi Police, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Haryana Police, Uttar Pradesh Police, and multiple central agencies in what officials have described as a “multi-layered and high-priority investigation.”

The Red Fort blast case has been formally registered as RC-21/2025/NIA/DLI, and the probe remains ongoing.

Further arrests and disclosures are likely as the agency works to establish the full contours of the conspiracy.
