Hours after the Supreme Court officially notified the transfer of Justice Yashwant Varma, the Allahabad High Court Bar Association has announced an indefinite strike starting from March 25 in protest against the decision.

Bar Association President Anil Tiwari confirmed the development, stating, “Lawyers of the High Court Bar Association, Allahabad, will go on an indefinite strike from Tuesday following Justice Yashwant Varma’s transfer to the Allahabad High Court.”

He further added, “We are sending a request to the Bar Associations in Lucknow to join our protest.”

Supreme Court Collegium Confirms Transfer

On Monday, the Supreme Court collegium reaffirmed its decision to recommend Justice Yashwant Varma’s transfer to the Allahabad High Court, which is his parent court. The transfer comes amid an ongoing inquiry regarding the alleged discovery of substantial cash reserves at his official residence in New Delhi. The incident reportedly took place during a fire when Justice Varma was not at home.
