The investigation is ongoing against former Trinamool Congress (TMC) legislator and ex-Mayor of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation Sabyasachi Dutta, the Bidhannagar City Police, which has led to the recovery of approximately three kilograms of gold valued at over ₹4.30 crore from a residence in Nadia district.
The recovery was made on June 23 during a search operation conducted at Tehatta in Nadia. According to investigators, the gold was seized from the ancestral residence of Tina Bhowmik Saha, a Zilla Parishad member who is reportedly associated with Dutta. Police officials believe the recovered bullion may have links to the former MLA, who is currently facing serious allegations of extortion.

Overnight Search Operation
As part of the investigation, police teams took Sabyasachi Dutta to Nadia district and conducted an overnight search at multiple locations. The operation follows Dutta’s arrest on June 8, 2026, in connection with an alleged extortion racket.
Investigators claim that the former MLA accumulated substantial quantities of gold using funds generated through illegal extortion activities. Police sources indicated that evidence collected so far suggests a pattern of converting alleged illicit proceeds into gold assets.
Earlier Gold Seizures
The latest recovery adds to the significant quantity of gold already seized during the investigation. Earlier searches at Dutta’s residence and bank locker reportedly led to the recovery of around 3.5 kilograms of gold.
With the latest seizure, the total quantity of gold recovered in connection with the case has risen substantially, strengthening the investigators’ efforts to trace the alleged flow of funds and identify possible beneficiaries and associates.
Authorities are continuing to examine financial records, property holdings, and transactions to determine the extent of the alleged network and the source of the recovered assets.
Separate Action Against Former MLA Saokat Molla’s Family
In a parallel development, district authorities have initiated action against an allegedly unauthorized commercial establishment linked to the family of former TMC MLA Saokat Molla.
Officials have ordered the demolition of a luxury café allegedly owned by Irfan Molla, son of Saokat Molla, within seven days. The administration claims that the structure was constructed after encroaching upon more than seven acres of riverine land.
Authorities have warned that if the owners fail to remove the structure within the stipulated period, the district administration will undertake demolition proceedings on its own.
NIA Case Against Saokat Molla
Saokat Molla was recently arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with a bomb blast case in Bhangar that occurred during the period leading up to the West Bengal Assembly elections.
The NIA has been investigating allegations relating to political violence and explosive-related incidents in the region, with Molla’s arrest forming part of a broader probe into the case.
Political Landscape After Regime Change
The developments come amid an intensified crackdown on several political figures in West Bengal following the change in the State’s political leadership in May 2026. According to reports, hundreds of leaders affiliated with the Trinamool Congress, including former ministers, legislators, and local body representatives, have faced investigations, arrests, or enforcement actions over the past several weeks.
The recovery of gold linked to the Sabyasachi Dutta investigation is expected to further fuel political debate in the State, while investigators continue to probe allegations of extortion, financial irregularities, and the conversion of suspected illicit proceeds into high-value assets.
Police officials have indicated that the investigation remains active and that further searches and recoveries cannot be ruled out as the probe progresses.
