The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC)  has notified transfers and postings of 559 officers in the grade of deputy / assistant commissioner of customs and indirect taxes.

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has directed the immediate relieving of Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners covered under the latest transfer and posting order, mandating that all affected officers join their new places of posting on or before July 6, 2026.

In a clear administrative directive, the Board has stated that no representation or request regarding transfer and posting will be entertained until the officers assume charge at their new stations. The move is aimed at ensuring timely implementation of the annual transfer exercise and avoiding delays in manpower deployment across field formations.

Officers Primarily Posted to GST and Central Excise Zones

The order notes that, by and large, officers have been posted to GST and Central Excise Zones. However, in certain formations, placements have been made by taking into account the combined vacancy position of Customs (Preventive) Commissionerates and Customs Zones.

To facilitate effective manpower sharing, CBIC has identified specific GST Zones where officers will also be available for deployment in designated Customs (Preventive) formations.

Key Sharing Arrangements

Under the order:

  • Delhi GST Zone officers will be shared with Delhi Customs Zone, Delhi Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate, and the Chief Commissioner’s Office of Delhi Customs (Preventive) Zone.
  • Jaipur GST Zone officers will be shared with Jodhpur Customs (Preventive), falling under Delhi Customs (Preventive) Zone.
  • Chandigarh GST Zone officers will also serve requirements of Amritsar and Ludhiana Customs (Preventive) Commissionerates.
  • Lucknow GST Zone officers will be shared with Lucknow Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate under Patna Customs (Preventive) Zone.
  • Ranchi GST Zone officers will be available for deployment in Patna Customs (Preventive) Zone and its Chief Commissioner’s Office.
  • Chennai GST Zone officers will be shared with Chennai Customs Zone, Trichy Customs (Preventive) Zone, and the Chief Commissioner’s Office of Trichy Customs (Preventive) Zone.

The Board has further clarified that the Principal Chief Commissioners and Chief Commissioners of the concerned Customs (Preventive) Zones will be part of the placement committee in accordance with Paragraph 3.2 of the Transfer/Placement Guidelines, 2018.

Compliance Report by July 10

All concerned Zones have been instructed to submit compliance reports regarding the relieving and joining of transferred officers to the Board, with a copy to the Additional Director General (HRM-II), DGHRD, by July 10, 2026.

Transfer Representations Disposed Of

In a significant administrative decision, CBIC has also declared that all representations received till date relating to transfers and postings in the grade of Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner of Customs and Indirect Taxes stand disposed of, indicating that the current transfer exercise has attained finality.

The order is expected to facilitate smoother manpower allocation across GST, Customs and Customs (Preventive) formations while addressing vacancy requirements in sensitive field establishments.
