The Government of India has named Mr. Vivek Kumar, retired Member of the Commercial Tax Tribunal, Bench-II, Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), as the Technical Member (State) in the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT). This appointment, sanctioned by the President of India, is for a bench located in Uttar Pradesh.
Mr. Kumar will assume his post with a fixed salary of ₹2,25,000 per month for a tenure of four years from the date he takes charge or until he reaches the age of 67 years—whichever is earlier. The appointment is in accordance with the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (Appointment and Conditions of Service of President and Members) Rules, 2023, and provisions of the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017.
According to the office order issued by the Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue (Office Order No. TMS – 02/2025), Mr. Kumar is required to join and take charge at the Principal Bench of GSTAT in New Delhi on or after August 1, 2025. He must report within four weeks and submit a medical fitness certificate from an authority specified by the state in which the appointed bench is located.
