The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), under the Ministry of Finance, has announced a revision in tariff values for several imported commodities including gold, silver, edible oils, brass scrap, and areca nuts, which will come into effect from October 16, 2025.

The revisions have been made under the powers conferred by Section 14(2) of the Customs Act, 1962, which allows the government to fix tariff values for certain goods to standardize valuation for customs duty purposes, taking into account fluctuations in international prices.

According to the notification, the CBIC has substituted Tables 1, 2, and 3 of the earlier Notification No. 36/2001-Customs (N.T.), thereby updating tariff values for a wide range of items.

Edible Oils (US$ per Metric Tonne):

The upward revision in palm oil and soybean oil values reflects recent strengthening in global edible oil markets, driven by supply constraints and rising demand from importing nations, including India.
