The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has strongly refuted allegations circulating on social media regarding an alleged breach of members’ records, students’ records, and examination data, describing the claims as “completely false, baseless and malicious.” The clarification comes after a fabricated notice purportedly issued by the institute went viral online, creating concern among students, members, and other stakeholders.
In an official statement issued by the institute, ICAI stated that there has been no breach whatsoever of members’ records, students’ records, or examination-related data. The institute emphasized that its databases and digital infrastructure remain secure and uncompromised, contrary to the allegations being spread on social media platforms.

The controversy arose after a purported announcement circulated online claiming that examination systems and student data had been compromised. ICAI clarified that these claims are entirely unfounded and appear to be part of a misinformation campaign designed to create panic and confusion among stakeholders.
ICAI urged students, members, and the public not to place reliance on unverified social media posts or unofficial communications. The institute advised stakeholders to refer only to announcements issued through its official channels for authentic and accurate information.
The institute further highlighted that it maintains strong and robust systems to safeguard all categories of data and remains committed to the highest standards of information security. According to ICAI, multiple technological safeguards are in place to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and protection of sensitive records and examination-related information.
This is not the first time ICAI has had to respond to such allegations. In June 2026, the institute had also denied claims regarding a purported security breach involving an examination-related portal. At that time, ICAI clarified that the portal in question was merely a training platform for examiner orientation and had no connection with examination records, marks data, or answer books. The institute had then assured stakeholders that no examination records or sensitive information had been compromised.
Reiterating its commitment to data security, ICAI stated that it views the spread of false information seriously and has urged stakeholders not to give credence to rumours or malicious propaganda. The institute assured members and students that their records remain safe and secure and that official communications should be treated as the sole source of verified information.
The clarification is expected to reassure lakhs of Chartered Accountancy students and members across the country who were concerned by the viral claims regarding the security of examination and personal data.
