Over 10 Lakh MSMEs Go Digital, Says Govt.

In a major boost to the digital empowerment of small businesses, the Government informed the Rajya Sabha today that over 10.72 lakh Udyam-verified Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) have been onboarded onto the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) as of July 21, 2025. The move comes as part of a broader initiative to integrate MSMEs into digital and e-commerce ecosystems.

Responding to an unstarred question (No. 904) raised by MP Shri Dhananjay Bhimrao Mahadik, the Minister of State for MSMEs, Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, outlined multiple initiatives aimed at digitally empowering MSMEs. These include onboarding support via the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), GeM, and other dedicated digital portals.

Key Highlights of Government’s Digital Integration Measures:

ONDC Expansion: Over 1.26 lakh sellers have registered on ONDC as of July 24, 2025. The platform aims to democratize e-commerce by enabling MSMEs, artisans, SHGs, FPOs, and traders to participate in online marketplaces.

MSME TEAM Portal: A total of 2,834 MSMEs have joined the MSME TEAM initiative by July 23, 2025, which provides support in their e-commerce journey.

PMS Scheme and MSME Global Mart: Financial assistance under the Procurement and Marketing Support (PMS) scheme and access to global trade through the NSIC-run Global Mart platform are among the strategic steps taken.

eKhadiIndia.com: This B2C portal, managed by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission, aims to give khadi products a global online footprint.

Training and Rural Outreach
The government also emphasized digital literacy efforts. More than 300 hours of virtual and 200 hours of technical training have been conducted under ONDC, benefiting over 50,000 MSMEs and startups. Tools like “ONDC Sahayak” — a WhatsApp bot available in 5 languages — further support outreach in regional areas, with plans to expand it to 22 languages.

Special focus has been laid on including rural and micro enterprises, with training programs reaching Tier II and III cities. GeM has also been conducting awareness drives and offering handholding support to onboard new MSMEs.

The report highlights the government’s continued thrust to integrate MSMEs — often referred to as the backbone of the Indian economy — into the digital fold, aiming for increased competitiveness and access to wider markets.
