Nitin Gupta Former CBDT Chairman Appointed Chairperson NFRA

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Nitin Gupta, IRS (IT:86), former Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), has been appointed as the new Chairperson of National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA).

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has announced a series of significant appointments to the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA), bringing in senior retired officers from various services to strengthen the regulatory body. These appointments are effective for a period of three years or until the appointees attain the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.

Joining him as Full-Time Members of NFRA are:

Ms. Smita Jhingran, IRS (IT:86), former Full-Time Member of NFRA, who continues her tenure in the same capacity.

Shri P. Daniel, IDES (1989), former Secretary of the Central Vigilance Commission and DoPT, also appointed as a Full-Time Member.

Shri Sushil Kumar Jaiswal, IA&AS (1993), former Director General of Audit (Central Receipt), New Delhi, who will now serve as a Full-Time Member.

The appointments have been made to ensure continuity and expertise at NFRA, which plays a critical role in monitoring and enforcing auditing standards and ensuring the integrity of financial reporting in India.

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs, which administers NFRA, has been duly informed. Copies of the order have also been forwarded to the Prime Minister’s Office and the Cabinet Secretariat for their records.

The official order was signed by Kundan Nath, Under Secretary (EO-SM-II), on July 16, 2025.

These appointments are expected to further enhance the functioning and credibility of NFRA, as India continues to align its financial regulatory framework with global standards.
