Govt. Boosts MSMEs With New GST Policy Reforms: QRMP Scheme and Late Fee Relief Introduced
The Indian government introduces GST reforms to support MSMEs, including the QRMP scheme and rationalized late fee caps. These changes benefit 89% of GST-registered taxpayers.
In a significant move to ease compliance for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the Government of India has introduced key changes in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) policy. The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) announced the implementation of the Quarterly Return filing and Monthly Payment (QRMP) scheme, which is set to benefit approximately 89% of GST-registered taxpayers.
What is the QRMP Scheme?
The QRMP scheme allows eligible businesses with an annual aggregate turnover of up to ₹5 crore to file GSTR-3B quarterly, while continuing to pay taxes monthly. This reduces the burden of frequent return filings, making tax compliance simpler and more efficient for small businesses.
Late Fee Cap Rationalization for MSMEs
Another critical reform is the rationalization of the upper cap on late fees, which is aimed at reducing financial pressure on smaller taxpayers. With this move, MSMEs that may occasionally delay GST return filings will not face disproportionately high penalties.
Key Benefits for MSMEs:
- Reduced compliance burden through less frequent filing.
- Simplified monthly payments with quarterly filing ease.
- Lower financial strain due to capped late fees.
- Inclusive growth as nearly 9 out of 10 GST taxpayers will benefit.
These reforms underline the government's ongoing commitment to strengthening India's MSME sector, which forms the backbone of the economy by contributing significantly to employment and GDP.
Government’s Focus on Ease of Doing Business
With these GST reforms, India continues to improve its ease of doing business rankings by simplifying tax processes and supporting small enterprises in their growth journey.
