Malur in Karnataka Designated as New Customs Port for Import and Export Operations

The Ministry of Finance has issued Notification No. 66/2025-Customs (N.T.), dated October 23, 2025, officially designating Malur in Kolar district as a new customs port for the unloading of imported goods and the loading of export goods.

The notification, issued under the powers of Section 7(1)(aa) read with Section 7(2) of the Customs Act, 1962, amends the earlier Notification No. 12/97-Customs (N.T.), originally issued on April 2, 1997. This amendment inserts Malur as a new entry under serial number 6, which pertains to the State of Karnataka, expanding the list of notified customs ports within the state.

According to the revised entry, the designated customs activities at Malur include, “Unloading of imported goods and the loading of export goods or any class of such goods.”

The original notification of 1997, which lists approved customs ports, airports, and land customs stations across India, has been periodically amended to include new trade points. The last amendment, before this one, was made through Notification No. 54/2025-Customs (N.T.), dated September 10, 2025.

The inclusion of Malur—an industrial hub in Kolar district located near Bengaluru—comes amid rising export activity from the region, which hosts numerous manufacturing units and logistics centers. The new designation is expected to reduce dependency on Bengaluru’s ports and streamline export-import (EXIM) operations for local industries.
