The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has announced the extension of the Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) Scheme, offering continued relief to exporters across multiple sectors.
According to Notification No. 35/2025 issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), the RoDTEP Scheme will now remain in force for Domestic Tariff Area (DTA) units beyond September 30, 2025, and will also be applicable to exports from Advance Authorisation (AA) holders, Special Economic Zones (SEZs), and Export Oriented Units (EOUs) until March 31, 2026.
The scheme, originally introduced to offset embedded taxes and duties not refunded through other mechanisms, will continue to cover a wide range of export items. The DGFT clarified that existing notified RoDTEP rates will remain applicable, though the scheme’s operation will stay subject to the budgetary limits set under the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023.
The government emphasized that the extension will ensure exporters receive timely remission benefits, thereby maintaining global competitiveness while ensuring fiscal discipline.
“This extension reflects the government’s commitment to support exporters in a challenging global trade environment,” the notification stated.
The order was issued with the approval of the Minister of Commerce and Industry and signed by Ajay Bhadoo, Director General of Foreign Trade & Additional Secretary to the Government of India.
What is RoDTEP?
The Remission of Duties or Taxes on Export Products (RoDTEP) scheme was strategically implemented by the Indian government to replace the earlier Merchandise Exports from India Scheme (MEIS), primarily to ensure India’s trade practices align with the regulations set forth by the World Trade Organization (WTO).
