The President of India has approved the empanelment and promotion of Sahil Inamdar to the grade of commissioner of Customs & Indirect Taxes in the Indian Revenue Service (Customs & Indirect Taxes) in Level l4 of the pay Matrix (sAG) against the panel year 2025 on notional basis w.e.f. 30.05.2025 and on actual basis w.e.f. the date of assumption of charge of the post and until further orders.
Mr. Inamdar, Additional Commissioner of Audit-II Commissionerate, Hyderabad has assumed the charge of Commissioner (in-situ) of Audit-Il Commisisonerate, Hyderabad in the afternoon i.e. on 04.06.2025.
His regular posting will be decided in due course with the approval of the competent Authority. Till then. he shall assume the charge of the promotional post on an in situ (as is where is) basis.
Who is he?
Sahil Inamdar, a 2007 batch officer of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs & Indirect Taxes), is a distinguished civil servant with a career marked by key contributions to India’s indirect tax policy and administration. Hailing from Pune, Maharashtra, and an engineering graduate in Mechanical Engineering from Pune University, he initially served as an ACP/DySP in the Maharashtra Police from 2004 to 2006 before entering civil services. After a brief stint in the Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS), he was inducted into the IRS in 2007. He served in Delhi from 2007 to 2018, during which he held several pivotal roles including Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Tax Research Unit of the Ministry of Finance.
In that role, he played a vital part in implementing the Negative List-based taxation regime for services in the Union Budget of 2012-13—a milestone reform paving the way for the GST framework. He also served as Additional Private Secretary to the Union Minister of State for Coal and was involved in drafting the model GST rules in coordination with various government bodies. In 2018, he worked as OSD to the Chairman of CBIC. Since 2019, he has been posted in Hyderabad in key enforcement and policy roles including Additional Director, DGGI, and as a Member of the CGST Advance Ruling Authority for Telangana. Currently, he is serving as Additional Commissioner in the Audit-II Commissionerate, Hyderabad CGST Zone.
