Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai on Tuesday launched the trailer of the film ‘Godan’, the first feature film based on the theme of cow protection (Gomata), at the Chief Minister’s Residence Office in Raipur. On the occasion, the Chief Minister also announced that the film will be exempted from entertainment tax across Chhattisgarh, underscoring the state government’s commitment to the preservation and promotion of indigenous cattle.
Addressing those present at the launch event, Chief Minister Sai congratulated the filmmakers and all individuals associated with the project. He stated that ‘Godan’ is not merely a cinematic effort but a social message aimed at creating awareness about the cultural, economic, and environmental significance of cow protection in Indian society.
“The Chhattisgarh government is fully committed to the conservation and promotion of cow progeny. Films like Godanplay an important role in sensitising society towards traditional values and sustainable rural livelihoods,” the Chief Minister said.
Focus on Cow Protection and Rural Economy
The film Godan revolves around issues related to the protection of cows, traditional agricultural practices, and the role of cattle in strengthening the rural economy. According to officials present at the event, the film seeks to highlight the relevance of indigenous cattle breeds, organic farming, and the socio-economic importance of gaushalas and cow-based enterprises.
By granting tax-free status to the film, the state government aims to ensure wider public outreach and encourage meaningful cinema that supports social welfare objectives.
Government’s Policy Commitment
The announcement aligns with the Chhattisgarh government’s broader policy framework on cow welfare, gaushala development, and promotion of cow-based livelihoods, which includes schemes for cattle conservation, organic manure production, and support to rural self-help groups engaged in cow-related activities.
Senior government officials, representatives of the film’s production team, and members of the media were present during the trailer launch. Promotional material of the film was also unveiled during the event.
Encouraging Socially Relevant Cinema
Observers note that the move reflects a growing trend among state governments to support films that carry social, cultural, and ethical messages, particularly those aligned with public policy objectives. The tax exemption is expected to boost the film’s visibility and box office reach across urban and rural areas of Chhattisgarh.
The film Godan is slated for theatrical release in the coming weeks.
