The Delhi High Court has declared Monday, Tuesday and Saturday — March 2, 3 and 7, 2026 — as holidays in the upcoming Holi break week. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of the same week had already been notified as holidays in the Court’s annual calendar, effectively extending the festive break.
The declaration was made through a notification dated February 27, 2026, issued by the General Administration-I Branch of the High Court of Delhi.
According to the notification, in lieu of the holidays on Monday, March 2, 2026, and Tuesday, March 3, 2026, the Court has declared Saturday, March 28, 2026, and Saturday, April 25, 2026, respectively, as Court sitting days. These substitute working days have been scheduled to compensate for the additional closures during the Holi week.
The Court has also clarified the revised schedule for cases listed on the affected dates. Matters fixed for hearing on Monday, March 2, 2026, will now be taken up on Saturday, March 28, 2026. Cases listed for Tuesday, March 3, 2026, will be heard on Saturday, April 25, 2026. Further, cases scheduled for Saturday, March 7, 2026, will be taken up on Monday, March 9, 2026.
The notification also makes corresponding arrangements for courts subordinate to the High Court. Monday, March 2, 2026, and Tuesday, March 3, 2026, have been declared holidays for subordinate courts as well.
To offset these holidays, Second Saturday, March 14, 2026, and Second Saturday, April 11, 2026, have been declared as working days for the subordinate judiciary. Cases fixed for March 2 before subordinate courts will now be taken up on March 14, 2026, while matters listed for March 3 will be heard on April 11, 2026.
With the inclusion of the additional holidays in the Holi break week, the High Court has ensured continuity of judicial work by designating alternative sitting days and rescheduling matters, thereby minimizing disruption to court proceedings. Litigants and members of the Bar have been advised to take note of the revised dates to avoid inconvenience.
