CBIC Promotion Order 2026: IRS Officers Elevated to Deputy Commissioner Rank | Full List Inside

The Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue, through the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), has issued Office Order, announcing the promotion of officers of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Indirect Taxes).

The order, approved by the President of India, promotes officers to the post of Deputy Commissioner of Customs & Indirect Taxes against the vacancy year 2025.

Effective Date of Promotion

As per the official notification:

  • Promotions will be effective notionally from January 1, 2025
  • Officers will get actual benefits from the date of assuming charge
  • No arrears of pay will be granted for the notional period

Key Conditions and Guidelines

The CBIC has laid down important conditions regarding the promotions:

  • Officers will assume charge in their current place of posting
  • Promotions are subject to court cases, if any
  • Officers under suspension, chargesheet, or penalty will not be allowed to assume charge
  • Officers on deputation will get promotion benefits only after returning to cadre, unless granted proforma promotion

Authorities have been directed to submit compliance reports regarding joining by April 24, 2026.
