The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) under the Ministry of Finance has issued Office Order announcing the empanelment and promotion of Ms. Rashmi G and Shri Tapan Kumar of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs & Indirect Taxes) to the grade of Commissioner.

As per the office order issued from Kartavya Bhawan, New Delhi, the President of India has approved the empanelment and promotion of these officers to the Commissioner rank in Level 14 of the Pay Matrix (Senior Administrative Grade) for the panel year 2026. The promotions will take effect from the date they assume charge of their posts and will remain in force until further orders.

Ms. Rashmi G and Shri Tapan Kumar, both belonging to the 2008 batch, have now been elevated to the prestigious Commissioner grade, marking a key milestone in their careers within the indirect tax administration.

The order further clarifies that regular postings of the promoted officers will be decided in due course, subject to approval by the competent authority. Until such postings are finalized, the officers have been directed to assume charge of their promotional posts on an “in situ” basis, meaning they will continue at their current place of posting while discharging the responsibilities of the higher rank.

The CBIC has mandated that a compliance report regarding the joining of the promoted officers must be submitted to the Board by May 5, 2026, with copies endorsed to the Directorate General of Human Resource Development (DGHRD).

The promotions reflect the government’s continued efforts to strengthen leadership within the indirect tax framework, ensuring experienced officers are placed in senior administrative roles to enhance governance, enforcement, and policy implementation under the GST and Customs regimes.
