CBI Charges Its Own DySP For Allegedly Accepting Rs. 20 Lakh Bribe In Customs Corruption Probe

Date:

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has charged its own officer who was the  deputy superintendent of police (DySP) named A. Bhaskar, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 20 lakh  from a customs official during a customs corruption probe.

In March 2023, Bhaskar assigned a case wherein the complaint alleged that a group, including customs officers and clearing agents, was involved in clearing goods without paying the required customs duty. The scheme reportedly used the passports of individuals who had lived abroad for over two years.

The accused customs officers had formed a cartel that received illegal gratification and allowed these dutiable goods without charging customs duty on them.

DSP Bhaskar, while investigating the case against customs officers, is alleged to have taken undue advantage and accepted a bribe. Customs Preventive Officer Roshan Kumar, Assistant Commissioner Yogesh Kumar, and private individual Vijay Mawara are accused of facilitating the conspiracy and its execution.
