56th GST Council Meeting Begins Today at 11 AM, Led by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman

The 56th meeting of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council is scheduled to commence today at 11:00 AM, according to the official memorandum issued by the Council. The high-level meeting will be chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Finance ministers from all states and Union Territories are expected to participate, along with senior officials from the Central government. The Council is likely to deliberate on key issues surrounding indirect tax policies, rate rationalisation, and measures aimed at strengthening the GST framework.

The meeting assumes significance as stakeholders anticipate discussions on industry-specific concerns, potential rate changes, and compliance-related matters that directly impact businesses and consumers across the country.
