In a major narcotics interception, Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, New Delhi, have seized 23.936 kilograms of suspected ganja/marijuana from two Indian passengers who arrived from Krabi, Thailand.
The operation was carried out by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at Terminal-3 following targeted passenger profiling. The duo had landed on February 22, 2026, by Flight No. 6E-1070 from Krabi and attempted to exit through the Green Channel when they were intercepted by Customs officers.
Upon interception, their baggage was subjected to X-ray screening and a thorough physical examination. During the detailed search, officers recovered a total of 14 polythene-wrapped packets containing a green-coloured substance suspected to be ganja. Of these, eight packets were concealed inside a grey-and-yellow trolley bag, while six packets were hidden in a dark green-and-white trolley bag.
The recovered contraband weighed 23,936 grams (net weight). Preliminary diagnostic testing conducted by Customs officials indicated that the seized substance is ganja/marijuana. The estimated value of the narcotics in the illicit market has been assessed at approximately ₹23.936 crore.
Both passengers have been arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The seized contraband along with the packing materials has been taken into official custody.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the narcotics and to identify any potential links to international drug trafficking networks, officials said.
