Customs officers at Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, have seized 5.525 kg of a green narcotic substance suspected to be ganja or marijuana from the baggage of a passenger who arrived from Bangkok on September 11, 2026. The estimated value of the seized substance is ₹1.933 crore.

The Myanmar passenger arrived on flight AI2333 and was intercepted at the green channel on the basis of profiling. Customs officers diverted her for an X-ray screening of her baggage and a personal and baggage search.

During the examination, officers found five polythene pouches containing the green substance inside a sea-green trolley bag. The substance weighed 5,525 grams after excluding the packaging. According to Customs, a diagnostic test indicated prima facie that it was ganja or marijuana. Its identity remains subject to confirmation through further examination.

Customs said the passenger had allegedly violated Section 8 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and cited Sections 20, 23 and 29 as the provisions under which the alleged offence is punishable. She was arrested on September 12 under Section 43(b) of the Act. Officers seized the suspected narcotic substance and its packaging under Section 43(a).

Further investigation is underway.
