Chennai Customs Seizes Contraband Worth Rs. 5.4 Crore at Nhava Sheva Port in Major Smuggling & IPR Violation Bust

In a significant crackdown on smuggling and intellectual property rights (IPR) violations, officers of the Special Intelligence and Investigation Branch (SIIB–Sea) have seized two containers carrying undeclared goods valued at approximately ₹5.40 crore.

Based on intelligence developed by SIIB (Sea), 2 containers with undeclared 13500 pairs of Luofo & Crocs footwear and 16000 pcs. of Korean Cosmetic Brands were seized for attempted smuggling and IPR violation. The contraband valued around ₹5.40 Cr.

The seized consignments not only represent an attempt at economic fraud but also pose significant threats to consumer safety and brand integrity. The footwear bore logos and designs deceptively similar to globally registered trademarks, particularly Crocs, a brand well-known and protected under Indian IPR laws. The cosmetics, imported without mandatory clearances, could potentially violate health and safety norms.
