Court Rejects CBI’s Transit Remand Application Against ED Official Involved In Bribery Case
An inspector of the Uttar Pradesh Excise Department was arrested on Wednesday by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹25,000 in Saharanpur.
The accused, Shailendra Kumar (40), was caught in a trap set by the ACB following a complaint filed by Sushil Kumar, a resident of Nangal. According to officials, Sushil Kumar had applied for a refund of ₹45,000—security money he had deposited for a liquor shop allotted to him in the previous financial year.
Instead of processing the refund through proper channels, Inspector Shailendra Kumar allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹25,000 to release the remaining amount. Acting swiftly on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap and apprehended the officer red-handed while taking the bribe.
Jaspal Singh, in-charge of the Anti-Corruption Organisation in Saharanpur, confirmed the arrest and said that a case has been filed under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 at the Janakpuri police station.
