In one of its largest anti-narcotics crackdowns in recent years, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has dismantled a sprawling drug manufacturing and distribution network operating across the Delhi-NCR region. The coordinated multi-day operation, conducted between October 21 and 23, led to the seizure of a massive cache of narcotics and precursor chemicals valued at approximately ₹108.81 crore in the illicit international market.
The operation culminated in the arrest of 26 foreign nationals believed to be part of an international drug trafficking syndicate involved in the manufacture and distribution of synthetic narcotics in India and abroad.
Raids in Greater Noida and Gurugram
The operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs received by the DRI regarding a clandestine methamphetamine production facility operating in Greater Noida. Acting swiftly, officers raided an isolated farmhouse located near a cluster of high-rise residential towers. The search yielded 11.40 kilograms of amphetamine and 110.923 kilograms of precursor chemicals used in the production of the psychotropic substance.
Simultaneously, the DRI apprehended the alleged handler of the syndicate from his residence in Gurugram, recovering an additional 1.33 kilograms of amphetamine.
High-Stakes Operation in West Delhi
In a subsequent follow-up action, the DRI traced another location in West Delhi suspected to be used as a storage and distribution hub. The premises, situated in a densely populated neighborhood with narrow lanes, posed significant logistical and security challenges for the enforcement team.
During the search, officers encountered resistance from several individuals attempting to obstruct official proceedings. However, in coordination with the Delhi Police, the DRI team maintained composure and strategic restraint, successfully securing the site and conducting a comprehensive search.
The raid resulted in the recovery of 7.79 kilograms of cocaine, 1.87 kilograms of heroin, 3.54 kilograms of amphetamine, 2 kilograms of ganja, 150 grams of methaqualone, and 4.50 kilograms of precursor chemicals. Officials also seized ₹37 lakh in cash, suspected to be proceeds from narcotics trafficking.
Total Seizure and Value
Across all operations, the DRI recovered:
- 16.27 kg of Amphetamine
- 7.9 kg of Cocaine
- 1.8 kg of Heroin
- 2.13 kg of Ganja
- 115.42 kg of Precursor Chemicals
The total haul is estimated to be worth ₹108.81 crore in the global illicit market.
Multi-Agency Coordination and Ongoing Probe
The DRI described the operation as a complex and multi-jurisdictional exercise requiring high levels of coordination, intelligence sharing, and on-ground execution across several locations in the NCR. The agency credited the success to intelligence-led enforcement and close cooperation with local law enforcement agencies.
A DRI spokesperson stated that the operation “reflects the agency’s unwavering commitment to dismantling organized narcotics syndicates and curbing the spread of synthetic drugs in India.”
Investigations are ongoing to trace the broader network of suppliers, financiers, and international links connected to the syndicate.
The latest action underscores the DRI’s enhanced focus on synthetic drug manufacturing units that have increasingly become a threat due to the use of chemical precursors and their potential links to transnational crime networks.
