The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has revised the import policy for Roasted Areca Nuts under ITC (HS) Code 20081920. The policy has been modified to prohibit imports, with certain exemptions.

As per the notification, Areca Nuts classified under ITC (HS) Code 08028090 are now categorized as “Prohibited” for import. However, an exception has been made wherein import is permitted if the Cost, Insurance, and Freight (CIF) value is Rs. 351/- or above per kilogram. Additionally, the notification clarifies that MIP (Minimum Import Price) conditions shall not be applicable for imports by 100% Export Oriented Units (EOUs), units in Special Economic Zones (SEZs), or those importing under the Advance Authorisation Scheme.

Furthermore, the notification specifies that Roasted Areca Nuts are now covered under the ITC (HS) Code 08028090. Consequently, the previous classification of “Free” import under ITC (HS) Code 20081920 has been amended, explicitly stating that Roasted Areca Nuts no longer fall under this category.
