Delhi Customs Seizes 96,000 Euros

The customs officers of IGI Airport, New Delhi, have booked a case of smuggling of foreign currency i.e. 96,000 Euro having value of INR 91,72,800 against two Indian male passengers, both intended to depart to Bangkok by flight from terminal 3, IGI Airport, New Delhi.

Acting on a specific input, the pax(s) was intercepted by the customs officers. Their personal & baggage examination resulted in the recovery of foreign currency i.e. 96,000/- euro having value of inr 91,72,800/- (rupees ninety one lakhs seventy two thousand and eight hundred only) was found concealed in trolley bags. The pax(s) have admitted that the above said recovered foreign currency was intended to be smuggled abroad from india.

In view of the above, the currency has been seized under section 110 of customs act, 1962 on a reasonable belief that the same is liable to confiscation under section 113 of the customs act, 1962 read with provisions of foreign exchange management act, 1999 (as amended). The passenger has been placed under arrest in terms of section 104 of the customs act, 1962. Further investigation is under progress.
