Delhi Customs Foils Smuggling Attempt, Seizes 18 Kg Hydroponic Ganja at IGI Airport

In an anti-narcotics operation, Delhi Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport intercepted an attempt to smuggle 18 kg (approx.) of high-grade hydroponic ganja into the country.

The operation took place on June 14, 2025, when vigilant officers at Terminal-3 flagged three Indian nationals arriving from Bangkok by Thai Airways flight TG-331. Based on spot profiling and behavioral indicators, the passengers were intercepted at the Green Channel during routine checks.

A detailed X-ray scan and physical examination of their baggage led to the discovery of 37 polythene packets hidden inside three trolley bags. The packets contained green-coloured substances, later confirmed through a preliminary diagnostic test to be ganja/marijuana. The total net weight of the contraband was approximately 18.00 kilograms.

The accused were immediately placed under arrest and booked under Sections 8, 20, 23, and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The narcotics, along with the concealment materials, were seized under Section 43 of the NDPS Act.

Customs officials have confirmed that further investigation is underway to determine the source, modus operandi, and any larger network behind the smuggling attempt.

This seizure underscores the heightened vigilance and commitment of Indian Customs in tackling drug trafficking through international routes.
