Thiruvananthapuram Customs Officers Foil Multiple Drug Smuggling Attempts Worth Rs. 65 CroreIn a remarkable display of vigilance and analytical precision, Customs officers of the Thiruvananthapuram Zone, under the leadership of the newly appointed Chief Commissioner and senior officials, successfully intercepted multiple high-value drug smuggling attempts at various airports over the past week. The seized contraband, primarily hydroponic cannabis, is estimated to be worth approximately ₹65 crore.

The interceptions were the result of intensified scrutiny and intelligence-based profiling by the Customs teams. According to sources, a recurring pattern has been observed in which the narcotics originate from Thailand and are smuggled into India by passengers using Gulf countries and other Southeast Asian nations as transit points. This evolving modus operandi appears to be a deliberate attempt to bypass traditional profiling and evade detection.

Officials stated that the traffickers are increasingly exploiting these indirect routes, capitalizing on the heavy passenger traffic and complex flight patterns to camouflage their illicit activities. The smugglers often travel through countries such as the UAE, Qatar, Malaysia, and Singapore before arriving in India, believing that multiple transits reduce their chances of interception.

Customs authorities have issued an alert to all major airports across the country, urging officers to remain vigilant and adapt to this emerging trend. Enhanced surveillance, risk profiling, and inter-agency coordination have been recommended to counteract this evolving threat.

The Chief Commissioner praised the officers for their swift and coordinated response, highlighting that the recent seizures reflect the department’s renewed commitment to national security and the fight against narcotics trafficking.

As drug traffickers evolve their tactics, Indian Customs remains resolute in its efforts to counter them with intelligence-led enforcement and heightened vigilance at all international entry points.
