The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Bengaluru Customs intercepted a passenger arriving from Bangkok on October 22, 2025, and seized approximately 5 kilograms of high-grade Hydroponic Ganja concealed in his baggage.
According to sources, the passenger had arrived at the Kempegowda International Airport from Bangkok on a late-night flight and was apprehended during a routine baggage screening. On closer examination, Customs officers discovered packages containing the contraband ingeniously hidden within false compartments of his checked-in luggage.
Hydroponic ganja, a potent variety of cannabis cultivated using nutrient-rich water solutions instead of soil, has become increasingly popular among traffickers due to its high market value and concentrated potency. Officials estimate that the seized consignment could fetch several lakhs of rupees in the illegal narcotics market.
Following the recovery, the passenger was placed under arrest and booked under various provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The case has been formally registered, and the accused was produced before a magistrate, who remanded him to judicial custody.
Customs officials stated that further investigation is underway to trace the source of procurement and identify any possible links to international drug trafficking networks. “The modus operandi suggests a well-organized attempt to smuggle hydroponic ganja from Southeast Asia into India. We are investigating whether the individual was part of a larger syndicate,” a senior Customs officer said on condition of anonymity.
