The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has amended Notification 64/2023-Customs to extend concessional duty on Yellow Peas till 28th February 2025.

All import consignments where a Bill of Lading (Shipped on Board) is issued on or before February 28, 2025, are immediately subject to registration under the online Import Monitoring System.

“Import of yellow peas…is free without the MIP condition and without port restriction, subject to registration under online import monitoring system, with immediate effect, for all import consignments where the bill of lading (shipped on board) is issued on or before February 28, 2025,” the directorate general of foreign trade (DGFT) said.

The central government permitted duty-free imports of yellow peas in early December 2023 until March 2024. This was then extended to April, June, October, and December.

In November 2017, a 50% duty on yellow peas was first imposed. Yellow peas are mostly imported by India from Russia and Canada.

India is a major producer and user of pulses, and it imports some of them to help satisfy its needs.
