The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has launched a major crackdown in a high-profile corruption case involving an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of the 2005 batch. On Thursday, the agency carried out extensive searches at eleven locations across Jaipur, Ahmedabad, and Gandhinagar in connection with a case related to the possession of disproportionate assets.

The searches targeted both residential and official premises of the accused officer and his associates. The CBI had earlier registered a case against the officer and his wife, alleging that the officer had illicitly enriched himself and amassed assets significantly beyond his known sources of income.

According to officials, preliminary investigations revealed that the couple possessed assets worth over Rs. 1.31 crore — 156.24% higher than their declared and legitimate income. The officer is accused of making substantial investments in real estate across multiple cities including Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Mumbai. His wife has also been charged with abetment in the alleged acquisition of these assets.

“During the ongoing searches, we have seized several incriminating documents and digital devices. The operation is still in progress,” a CBI stated.

The raids are part of the CBI’s broader efforts to clamp down on corruption and misuse of public office. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
