Thiruvananthapuram Zone Posts 18% GST Growth, Rs. 580 Cr Evasion Detected, Says SK Rahaman

As India celebrates eight years of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime on July 1, 2025, the Thiruvananthapuram CGST Zone has emerged as a national standout, not only receiving accolades for administrative efficiency but also reporting significant revenue growth and enforcement success.
According to a press release issued by S. K. Rahman, Chief Commissioner, CGST Thiruvananthapuram Zone, the region witnessed a strong 18% increase in GST revenue in the first two months of FY 2025–26, with Central Excise collections up by 14%. The Zone's enforcement and audit wings booked tax evasion cases amounting to ₹580 crore in FY 2024–25 — reinforcing a robust culture of compliance and vigilance.
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) awarded the Zone a Commendation Certificate for its exceptional achievements:
55% of GST registration applications processed within 7 days, versus the national average of 17%
83% of appeals filed during the year successfully resolved
The theme for GST Day 2025 is “GST – Simplifying Taxes: Empowering Citizens”, reaffirming the tax’s role in transforming governance and empowering taxpayers.
Extensive GST Awareness and Engagement Drive
To mark the celebrations, a comprehensive GST Pakhwada (June 16 – July 1) was observed, with programs spanning:
GST Conclave 2025 in Kochi, attended by over 200 stakeholders and addressed by dignitaries including Hon’ble Attorney General of India Shri R. Venkataramani and ICAI’s Shri Rajendra Kumar P.
Chief Commissioner’s outreach to key taxpayers like BPCL and Cochin Shipyard to directly address concerns and foster trust.
National GST Conference inaugurated by the Chief Commissioner, where he led a technical session on dispute resolution mechanisms.
Public engagement via street plays, art exhibitions, and student competitions across 20+ schools, involving over 500 students.
FIT India Cycle Marathons across all Commissionerates, led by Olympians and senior officers, promoting fitness and camaraderie.
GST Day Function and Recognition
The main GST Day 2025 event will be held on July 1 in Thiruvananthapuram, with Kerala’s Finance Minister K. N. Balagopal as Chief Guest and actor Mohanlal as Guest of Honour. Officers and trade representatives will be felicitated for their contributions to GST administration and stakeholder collaboration.
