The notice, dated June 30, 2025, was served by the Additional Commissioner of CGST, Gurugram, and pertains to the company’s ITC claims for the financial years 2018–19 to 2020–21. The action has been initiated under Section 74(1) of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Act, 2017, along with relevant provisions under the SGST, IGST, and UTGST laws.

Authorities have flagged significant mismatches between ITC claimed by the company and actual data available in GST returns. The discrepancies reportedly stem from availing credit against invoices issued by vendors who either failed to pay the corresponding tax to the government or were found to be non-compliant with GST norms.

SBI Cards is expected to respond to the notice and may be required to justify the genuineness of its ITC claims to avoid further legal proceedings, including penalties and tax recovery.
