A large gathering of over 100 business representatives, trade leaders, and tax professionals attended a Trade Meeting on GST 2.0 next-generation reforms held in Kozhikode yesterday. The session, led by Shri S.K. Rahman, Chief Commissioner of CGST, focused on the upcoming GST changes effective September 22, 2025, and their implications for businesses.
Shri Rahman highlighted the critical steps that businesses must adopt to ensure smooth compliance and to pass on the benefits of the reforms to consumers. Emphasizing preparedness, he outlined three key directives:
Upgrade ERP & Accounting Systems
Businesses were urged to immediately update their ERP and accounting systems to reflect the revised GST rates (excluding sin goods). He stressed the importance of mapping the new HSN codes and sector definitions into product masters and ensuring accuracy in GST returns.
Recalculate Pricing & Amend Contracts
The Chief Commissioner advised companies to review and recalculate their pricing structures to account for revised GST rates—either passing on benefits to consumers or managing cost escalations. Businesses may also need to revise ongoing contracts to reflect the new tax structure.
Communicate with Stakeholders
Firms were asked to ensure transparent communication of changes to customers, suppliers, and vendors. This includes revising invoices, purchase orders, and input credit documentation. Shri Rahman recommended that businesses highlight GST impacts clearly in quotations for better transparency and compliance.
The interactive session allowed participants to raise queries, clarify doubts, and share concerns about the implementation challenges. Stakeholders welcomed the initiative, noting that direct engagement with tax authorities helped in addressing practical compliance issues.
The meeting also emphasized that trade preparedness is crucial for GST 2.0’s success, as the reforms aim to streamline tax processes, reduce disputes, and enhance transparency in the indirect tax regime.
