India’s GST Collections Grow by 7.5% in July 2025, Cross Rs. 1.95 Lakh Crore

India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections in July 2025 stood at rS. 1,95,735 crore, reflecting a 7.5 percent year-on-year growth from Rs. 1,82,075 crore in July 2024, according to provisional data released by the Ministry of Finance.

This includes revenues from both domestic transactions and imports and marks another month of robust fiscal performance amid a recovering global trade environment.

In terms of breakup, Central GST (CGST) accounted for ₹35,470 crore, State GST (SGST) was ₹44,059 crore, Integrated GST (IGST) stood at ₹1,03,536 crore (of which ₹51,910 crore came from domestic sources and ₹51,626 crore from imports), and Cess contributed ₹12,670 crore. After accounting for refunds, net GST revenue in July 2025 amounted to ₹1,68,588 crore, which is a modest 1.7 percent increase compared to ₹1,65,800 crore in July 2024. Refunds saw a steep rise of 66.8 percent year-on-year, reaching ₹27,147 crore, largely driven by export-related claims and domestic adjustments.

Cumulatively for the April to July 2025 period, gross GST revenue touched ₹8,18,099 crore, up 10.7 percent from ₹7,38,894 crore during the same period last year. Net GST revenue also showed a strong growth of 8.4 percent, rising from ₹6,55,974 crore to ₹7,11,128 crore.

On the state-wise front, several regions recorded double-digit growth, indicating healthy economic activity. Tripura (41 percent), Meghalaya (26 percent), Sikkim (23 percent), Nagaland (22 percent), Madhya Pradesh (18 percent), and Bihar (16 percent) led the growth chart. However, some states like Manipur (-36 percent), Mizoram (-21 percent), Jammu and Kashmir (-5 percent), and Chandigarh (-5 percent) experienced declines in GST collections.

Post-IGST settlement data also reflected continued revenue growth for many states. Maharashtra saw its SGST settlement rise to ₹62,832 crore (up 12 percent), Punjab reached ₹8,697 crore (up 15 percent), Delhi increased to ₹13,168 crore (up 9 percent), and Tamil Nadu received ₹25,034 crore (up 1 percent). Conversely, states such as Uttar Pradesh (-2 percent), Odisha (-9 percent), and Kerala (-2 percent) recorded slight declines in post-settlement receipts.

A key point of attention in this month’s data is the sharp increase in refunds. Domestic refunds grew by 117.6 percent from ₹7,805 crore in July 2024 to ₹16,983 crore in July 2025. Export-related refunds processed through ICEGATE increased by 20 percent. While this may indicate better efficiency in refund processing and higher export activity, it also calls for close monitoring to ensure there are no revenue leakages or fraudulent claims.

Overall, the GST collection figures for July 2025 reflect a positive trajectory for India’s indirect tax revenues. The steady growth, despite global uncertainties, highlights improved compliance and economic recovery. However, regional disparities and the rise in refunds will require careful policy attention in the coming quarters.
