The Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), Meerut Zone, commemorated the 8th GST Day with grandeur at the IMS Auditorium, Ghaziabad. The event celebrated eight years since the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) — a landmark reform that reshaped India’s indirect tax landscape.
The celebration was presided over by Shri Surjit Bhujabal, Zonal Member and Member (Customs), Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), who attended as the Chief Guest. The event was conducted under the leadership of Shri Sanjay Mangal, Chief Commissioner, CGST Meerut Zone.
In his inaugural address, Shri Sanjay Mangal highlighted GST’s significant impact in enhancing transparency, streamlining compliance, and reinforcing cooperative federalism. “GST has not only simplified tax compliance but has ushered in transparency, boosted revenue collections, and strengthened the spirit of cooperative federalism,” he said.
Chief Guest Shri Surjit Bhujabal underscored the role of digital transformation in the success of the GST regime. He also shared key insights into upcoming technological upgrades to the GSTN portal, including simplified return filing, real-time invoice matching, and enhanced analytics tools for improved compliance monitoring.
The event coordinator was Urja Jain, Assistant Commissioner, CGST Noida.
The event featured experience-sharing sessions by prominent stakeholders including CA Rajendra Kumar P, Atul Khanna (Vice President–Finance, LG), and Shri Sandeep Bangia, Additional Commissioner, SGST Noida. They reflected on the system’s evolution, its achievements, and the challenges that lie ahead.
Commendation certificates were presented to meritorious officers for their exemplary contributions to tax administration. A cultural programme infused the event with vibrancy and celebration, marking the spirit of transformation and collaboration that GST embodies.
The 8th GST Day served as a reaffirmation of India’s dedication to economic modernization and inclusive governance, recognizing the joint efforts of tax officials, professionals, and taxpayers in sustaining the success of the GST framework.
