Arunachal Pradesh has recorded a robust Rs. 1200 crore revenue growth under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime in the last fiscal year, marking a substantial uptick in tax compliance and economic activity. The announcement came during the 8th GST Day celebrations held at the State Banquet Hall in Itanagar .

Lobsang Tsering, Commissioner of Tax and Excise, revealed that over Rs. 300 crore has already been collected in the first half of the current financial year. The crucial role of taxpayers in the nation-building process, stating, “Taxpayers are the backbone of India’s development. Their contribution fuels the nation’s progress.”

The event, organised by the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) and Central Excise Commissionerate (CEC), was themed “GST: Simplifying Taxes; Empowering Citizens.” It brought together senior government officials, entrepreneurs, and dignitaries to commemorate eight years of the GST’s nationwide rollout.

Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Sushanta Kumar Nayak, Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University, lauded the department’s commitment to promoting transparency and fostering a culture of voluntary compliance. He also highlighted the transformative impact of GST on the Indian economy, describing it as a unifying tax regime that has simplified the indirect tax landscape.

As part of the celebrations, five entrepreneurs were felicitated for exemplary adherence to GST regulations. Among them was Likha Jully Neelam, proprietor of M/s Lifecare, who shared her experiences navigating the evolving tax environment. “The initial years were challenging, but the transition has become smoother with improved digital tools and proactive local support,” she said.

Government officials and police personnel were also honoured for their outstanding contributions to tax enforcement and administration.

Earlier, CGST Commissioner Shyam Kanu Mahanta outlined the CEC’s initiatives to strengthen enforcement, provide compliance support, and enhance taxpayer services. Joint Commissioner Amit Kumar Singh also addressed attendees, reiterating the department’s focus on facilitation and digital innovation.

The event concluded with the screening of two short films—one produced by the Itanagar CGST office and another by the Directorate General of Taxpayer Services, New Delhi—chronicling GST’s eight-year journey and its milestones across the country.
