The Income Tax Department has announced that the facility for filing Updated Returns for Assessment Years (AY) 2021-22 and 2022-23 is now available for ITR-1 and ITR-2 forms.

The announcement was made via the department’s official handle on X (formerly Twitter), urging taxpayers to take advantage of this opportunity to file or correct returns if needed.

“Kind Attention Taxpayers! The facility for filing Updated Returns for AY 2021-22 and AY 2022-23 for ITR-1 & ITR-2 is now available,” the department stated in its post, sharing a link to the e-filing portal.

Taxpayers can access the updated return filing system through the official e-filing portal, where a guided process ensures a smooth filing experience. The move is expected to help individuals who missed filing their returns on time or need to revise their earlier submissions due to inadvertent errors.

The initiative aligns with the provisions under Section 139(8A) of the Income Tax Act, 1961, which allows taxpayers to update their return within 24 months from the end of the relevant assessment year.

The feature is currently live and functional, and the department encourages all eligible individuals to file their updated returns at the earliest.
