Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani has opted to draw no salary for the fifth consecutive year, according to the company’s annual report for FY 2024–25.

The report states that the figure includes all components such as salary, allowances, and perquisites. Ambani, who also serves on the boards of Reliance Foundation Hospital Trust and media venture IBN-Lokmat News, earned no remuneration from these positions either.

The zero-salary practice began during the COVID-19 pandemic in FY 2020–21 and has continued since. Even before that, Ambani had voluntarily capped his annual pay at ₹15 crore between FY 2009–10 and FY 2019–20. His personal wealth, derived mainly from his stake in RIL and its subsidiaries, stood at $99.8 billion as of August 7, 2025, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index—up $9.19 billion from last year. He is currently the 18th richest person globally.

The report also notes that neither the Managing Director nor any whole-time director receives salary or commission from RIL subsidiaries.

In contrast, other executive directors received substantial compensation in FY 2024–25:

  • Nikhil Meswani: ₹7.28 crore in salary, ₹44 lakh in retiral benefits, and ₹17.28 crore as commission, totaling ₹25 crore.
  • Hital Meswani: ₹7.28 crore in salary, ₹44 lakh in retiral benefits, and ₹17.28 crore as commission, totaling ₹25 crore.
  • PMS Prasad: ₹19.37 crore in salary and ₹59 lakh in retiral benefits, amounting to ₹19.96 crore. His package also included performance-linked incentives for FY 2023–24, paid in the current fiscal year.

The disclosures highlight Ambani’s continued decision to forgo personal salary, even as RIL’s top executives maintain strong compensation packages.
