The BJP-led Delhi government, under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, unveiled its first Budget in 26 years, amounting to ₹1 lakh crore for the financial year 2025-26. This marks a significant 31.56% increase from the previous year’s ₹76,000 crore allocation, later revised to ₹77,000 crore. The Budget focuses on infrastructure, women’s empowerment, healthcare, sanitation, and public transport.
Major Allocations in Delhi Budget 2025
Infrastructure and Civic Development
- ₹6,897 crore allocated to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for urban infrastructure, sanitation, and waste management.
- ₹1,000 crore for improving Delhi-NCR connectivity.
- ₹100 crore for a pilot project to remove overhead electrical lines and shift high-tension power lines.
Women’s Welfare and Safety
- ₹5,100 crore for Mahila Samriddhi Scheme, providing ₹2,500 per month to eligible women.
- 50,000 CCTV cameras to be installed across Delhi for enhanced women’s safety.
- ₹210 crore allocated for pregnant women’s welfare, including nutrient kits and a ₹21,000 allowance per beneficiary.
Healthcare and Sanitation
- ₹6,874 crore for health infrastructure, including new health and wellness centers and expansion of ‘Ayushman Arogya Mandir.’
- ₹2,144 crore for Ayushman Bharat expansion, enhancing healthcare coverage to ₹10 lakh per individual.
- ₹9,000 crore for clean drinking water and sanitation.
- ₹500 crore for Yamuna River cleaning, ensuring only treated water is discharged through 40 decentralized sewage treatment plants.
- ₹500 crore for sewage treatment plant upgradation and ₹250 crore for replacing old sewer lines.
Education and Digital Learning
- ₹100 crore for the establishment of ‘CM Shri Schools.’
- ₹750 crore to provide free laptops to 1,200 students excelling in Class X, promoting digital literacy.
Public Transport and Connectivity
- ₹12,952 crore allocated to improve transport infrastructure, the highest sectoral allocation in the Budget.
- Pink tickets to be replaced with special cards for women’s free bus rides, ensuring transparency and preventing misuse of subsidies.
Pollution Control and Environmental Measures
- ₹300 crore allocated to curb pollution.
- ₹506 crore for the environment and forest department’s initiatives for a greener Delhi.
Modernization and Cultural Promotion
- ₹40 crore allocated for modern cow shelters (gaushalas) in Ghummanhera.
- ₹30 crore for an International Film Festival, boosting tourism and cultural prominence.
- ₹100 crore for the establishment of 100 Atal Canteens, ensuring affordable meals for economically weaker sections.
- ₹696 crore for slum development projects, improving housing and living conditions.
Security and Urban Planning
- Tihar Jail Relocation Plan: The government announced shifting Tihar Jail to a modern facility on Delhi’s outskirts to improve security and prison management.
