Lokpal Invites CBI, ED, and Other Central Agency Officers to Join Its Inquiry Wing on Deputation

The Lokpal of India has issued a call for applications from officers with investigative experience in premier central agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Enforcement Directorate (ED), Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), and Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) to join its inquiry wing on deputation.

According to an official circular dated June 10, the Lokpal seeks to fill several key positions — including Deputy Director/Superintendent of Police, Inquiry/Investigation Officers, Assistant Inquiry/Investigation Officers, and Personal Assistants. Officers from central government services and state/UT police forces with experience in handling general, economic, banking, or cybercrime investigations are encouraged to apply.

This recruitment drive follows a decision made by the full bench of the Lokpal on August 30, 2024, to formally constitute its inquiry wing under Section 11 of the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 2013. The inquiry wing is tasked with conducting preliminary inquiries into offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, allegedly committed by public servants.

The circular specifies that the terms and conditions for deputation — including pay, allowances, HRA, transport and travel entitlements, leave, medical facilities, and LTC — will align with existing rules applicable to central government employees, until the Lokpal Officers and Staff Regulations, 2024, are notified.

Additionally, officers appointed to the roles of Deputy Director and SP will be entitled to pick-and-drop facilities between their residence and office. Other staff will be provided transport between the office and the nearest metro station or bus stop.

Interested and eligible officers must submit their applications within 60 days from the date of the vacancy circular’s issuance.
