In a significant tribute to Sikkim’s integration into the Indian Union, the Government of India has announced the release of a ₹50 commemorative coin marking “50 Glorious Years of Statehood – Sikkim.”
The Ministry of Finance, through a Gazette notification dated May 13, 2025, declared that the coin will be minted under the authority of the Central Government in accordance with the Coinage Act, 2011. The coin is a part of a special issue to celebrate Sikkim’s journey since becoming the 22nd state of India in 1975.

Design Details:
- Obverse Side: Features the Lion Capital of the Ashoka Pillar at the center with the words “सत्यमेव जयते” inscribed below. The word “भारत” appears in Devanagari on the left periphery, and “INDIA” in English on the right, along with the rupee symbol “₹” and the denomination “50.”
- Reverse Side: Displays the official logo commemorating 50 years of Sikkim’s statehood. Encircling the design are inscriptions in both Hindi—“राज्यत्व के 50 गौरवशाली वर्ष – सिक्किम”—and English—“50 Glorious Years of Statehood – Sikkim.” The years “1975–2025” are engraved beneath the logo.
Minting Standards:
The coin’s weight tolerance is strictly controlled, allowed to vary only between 39.995 grams to 40.005 grams, ensuring high precision and quality.
This commemorative release not only celebrates Sikkim’s cultural and historical legacy but also serves as a collector’s item symbolizing national pride. The coin’s issuance underscores India’s recognition of Sikkim’s contributions over the past five decades since it joined the Union.
