Busted! CBI Nabs Ghaziabad CGST Inspector For Demanding Rs.2 Lakh Bribe

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended an accused Inspector of CGST, Ghaziabad for demanding and accepting Rs. 2 lakh bribe from complainant.

 The CBI registered a case on 07.05.2025, against the Inspector on allegations that the accused demanded  illegal gratification of Rs. 11 lakh from the complainant on account of mismatch in Input Tax Credit in the GST return of his firm. It was also alleged that the accused Inspector was continuously pressurizing the complainant to pay the illegal gratification failing which he threatened of taking adverse action against his firm. After negotiation, the accused agreed to accept the illegal gratification of Rs. 2 lakh.

Accordingly, CBI laid a trap to catch the accused red-handed. The accused accepted the bribe in his car. However, when he was challenged by the CBI team present near the spot, he tried to run away and while he attempted to run away,  the accused severely damaged the official vehicle of the CBI team as well as some of the private vehicle from his car. After the chase of around 02 KM, the accused was apprehended by the CBI team. The demanded and accepted illegal gratification of Rs. 2 lakh was also recovered.

Searches are being carried out at official and residential premises of the accused.
