1.2 kg Gold Smuggling Foiled at IGI Airport

In a significant crackdown on gold smuggling, Customs officers at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, New Delhi, successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle over 1.2 kilograms of gold concealed in an ingenious manner.

Acting on intelligence developed by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU), Customs officials intercepted two Indian male passengers who had arrived on separate domestic flights. A thorough examination of their baggage led to the discovery of silver-coated wires, cleverly concealed within the linings of their luggage. Upon closer inspection, the wires were suspected to be gold.

The total weight of the recovered gold stood at 1202 grams, worth several lakhs in the market. The smuggling attempt highlights the increasingly sophisticated methods employed by offenders to evade detection by authorities.

Customs officials have seized the gold, and further investigation is underway to uncover the larger network behind the smuggling attempt. The incident underscores the vigilance of Customs officers at IGI Airport in curbing illegal activities and safeguarding national economic interests.

Authorities continue to enhance surveillance and intelligence-sharing mechanisms to thwart smuggling attempts, ensuring strict action against offenders.
