In a major crackdown on smuggled goods, officers of the Customs Preventive Division (CPD), Calicut, recovered 6,00,000 sticks of ‘Goad Flame’ cigarettes suspected to be of foreign origin from a warehouse. The seized consignment, valued at approximately ₹36 lakhs, was found during a targeted operation based on intelligence inputs.

According to officials, the cigarettes were stored in a warehouse and were being prepared for distribution. The consignment lacked proper import documentation, raising suspicions of smuggling and duty evasion. Further investigations are underway to trace the source and those involved in the illicit trade.

The smuggling of foreign-origin cigarettes is a growing concern due to revenue loss to the exchequer and potential health hazards posed by unregulated products. Authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to contraband goods.
