The Delhi Customs has seized suspected ganja/marijuana worth Rs. 11.28 crore concealed within 8 cookies and rice packets inside a black trolley bag.

The Customs officers at IGI Airport, New Delhi, have successfully intercepted a case of smuggling involving a green-colored NDPS substance, suspected to be Ganja/Marijuana, concealed within eight (08) cookies and rice packets inside a black trolley bag.

The interception was made on the basis of passenger profiling. The suspect, an Indian national, arrived at Terminal-3, IGI Airport, New Delhi, on Flight No. TG-323 from Bangkok on February 21, 2025. Upon arrival, the passenger was diverted from the Green Channel for an X-ray screening of personal baggage by Customs officers.

During the examination of the black trolley bag, eight (08) cookies and rice packets containing a green-colored narcotic substance suspected to be Ganja/Marijuana, with a total net weight of 11,284 grams, were recovered. A diagnostic test conducted on the seized material prima facie confirmed it to be Ganja/Marijuana. The estimated illicit market value of the seized substance is approximately ₹11.28 crore.

The passenger was found to have violated Section 8 of the NDPS Act, 1985 and committed an offense punishable under Sections 20, 23, and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985. Consequently, the passenger was placed under arrest at 17:50 hours on February 21, 2025, under Section 43(B) of the NDPS Act, 1985.

The suspected Ganja/Marijuana, along with the concealment material and packaging, has been seized under Section 43(A) of the NDPS Act, 1985.

Further investigation is underway to determine the broader network involved in this smuggling attempt.
